The court sentenced a labour supervisor to six months in prison, suspended upon payment of a BD100 bail, after a 77-year-old Bangladeshi worker died in a fall from a fourth-floor rooftop.

The First High Criminal Court found the supervisor guilty of causing the worker’s death through negligence and failure to comply with occupational safety requirements.

According to court documents, the victim, who worked for a welding and fabrication company, was collecting equipment from the roof of a restaurant after completing work when he lost balance and fell from an unsecured side of the building from a height of about 20 metres.

He suffered severe head and brain injuries and later died from his wounds.

A technical report by the Labour Ministry’s Occupational Safety and Inspection Department classified the incident as a workplace accident caused by unsafe conditions at the site.

Investigators said the supervisor failed to provide adequate safety measures, protective equipment and proper site security to ensure the worker’s safety while carrying out his duties.

The court said the charges were closely linked and applied the maximum penalty under Article 66 of Bahrain’s Penal Code.
