Bahrain Condemns Oil Tanker Hijacking, Backs Egypt’s Efforts
Manama, 11 May (BNA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain strongly condemned the hijacking of an oil tanker carrying eight Egyptian sailors in Yemeni regional waters and its forced transfer to waters near the Puntland region of Somalia.
In a statement, the ministry described the incident as a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and international Security Council resolutions related to maritime security and anti-piracy efforts.
The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with the sister Egypt, including its leadership, government, and people, while expressing support for all legal measures aimed at ensuring the safety and immediate release of the Egyptian sailors.
Bahrain also called on the international community and relevant authorities to take immediate and coordinated action to end the incident, secure the safe return of the sailors to their families, and bring those responsible to justice in accordance with international law.
The statement emphasized the importance of protecting maritime security and civilian safety, noting that international cooperation remains essential to combating piracy and strengthening regional and global stability.
The ministry further stressed that such criminal acts threaten the safety of international shipping routes and undermine efforts aimed at preserving security and stability in regional waters
