A 43-year-old African national will serve a 10-year prison sentence followed by permanent deportation after the Court of Cassation upheld his conviction for attempting to kill an African woman inside her home, following a dispute between them.

According to court findings, the man attacked the victim inside her residence using a hammer, striking her multiple times and causing serious injuries. The assault reportedly continued until he believed she had died.

The attack was interrupted when a passerby intervened, allowing the injured woman to escape. A witness later testified that after being called for help, he arrived at the scene, saw the victim bleeding as she left the apartment, and spotted the accused inside with bloodstained clothing before the accused fled.

Prosecutors charged the defendant with attempted premeditated murder, arguing the crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control, namely the victim’s escape. The court also noted that the victim suffered a permanent disability estimated at five percent.

The accused denied the charges during investigations, claiming the incident stemmed from a minor dispute. However, the victim maintained that he had attacked her with intent to kill her inside her home.

The ruling confirms the 10- year prison term, after which the defendant will be deported from the country permanently.
