GCC, EU lawmakers discuss ties and regional security

The secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) met a European Parliament delegation in Riyadh on Sunday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional developments, the GCC said.
GCC Se cretary- General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi received the delegation led by MEP Reinhold Lopatka at the GCC General Secretariat, where both sides reviewed prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two blocs.
According to the GCC, discussions focused on advancing Gulf-European relations in a way that serves mutual interests and supports development, prosperity, security, and stability.
Al-Budaiwi said the Gulf states are keen to deepen engagement with regional and international partners, adding that the visit would help broaden areas of cooperation between the GCC and the European Union.
The two sides also exchanged views on recent regional developments. Members of the European Parliament delegation reiterated their support for GCC countries following recent Iranian attacks, the statement added.
