Arab League Hosts Crisis Meeting

Arab League Secretary- General Ahmed Aboul Gheit took part in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of the Union of Arab Chambers, held at the League’s headquarters in Cairo, to discuss the impact of regional developments on Arab economies and ways to strengthen joint economic cooperation.

The meeting, organised by the League’s Economic Affairs Sector in cooperation with the Union of Arab Chambers, brought together senior Arab officials, including Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Economic Affairs Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, current President of the Union Dr. Samir Majoul, and Secretary-General of the Union Dr. Khaled Hanafy, alongside heads of Arab chambers of commerce and representatives of joint Arab and international chambers.

Discussions focused on mechanisms to support economies affected by current regional crises, enhancing the role of the private sector in promoting economic integration, and strengthening resilience against external shocks. Participants also explored future scenarios for Arab private sector engagement amid shifting regional and global conditions.

Dr. Al-Malki stressed the importance of the meeting in addressing urgent economic challenges and supporting affected Arab economies. He highlighted the private sector’s central role as a driver of growth and sustainable development across the Arab world.

He also underscored the significance of national and Arab-foreign joint chambers as key platforms for advancing economic cooperation and reinforcing Arab interests, particularly in light of ongoing regional and international changes.
