Salah Al Madfa, chairman of the Bahrain Bar Society, described the development as “a new era for the legal profession in Bahrain,” noting that the previous framework had remained unchanged for more than four decades.
“The old law has been in place for over 46 years. This new legislation brings important gains for lawyers and strengthens the profession’s role in the justice system,” Al Madfa said.
He added that discussions revised or removed several disputed provisions, including a clause that would have allowed non-lawyers to establish law firms. Al Maawda also highlighted that the law expands professional opportunities, including specialisation in English-language advocacy.
It was included in the government’s programme under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
