Bahrain, UK Discuss Security and Economic Risks of Hormuz Crisis
His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, has called on Iran to immediately cease its hostile actions in the region and ensure the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, warning of serious implications for regional stability and the global economy.
During a meeting at Sakhir Palace with Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, HRH Prince Salman underscored the strength of the longstanding strategic partnership between Bahrain and the UK. He noted that bilateral relations continue to advance with the support of Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Charles III.
His Royal Highness reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors through joint agreements and strategic partnerships aligned with shared interests. He also praised the UK’s role, alongside its allies, in reinforcing regional and international security, particularly its efforts in countering recent Iranian attacks, which he described as violations of international law.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties, as well as addressing ongoing regional developments and their impact on global economic stability and security. HRH the Crown Prince stressed Bahrain’s firm stance on the need for Iran to halt all hostile activities and restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
He highlighted that recent Iranian aggression targeting civilians, residential areas, infrastructure, and energy facilities across Bahrain, GCC countries, and the Jordan had resulted in casualties and damage to critical infrastructure, calling for a decisive international response.
HRH Prince Salman further emphasised that addressing Iranian threats requires a comprehensive approach, including its nuclear programme, ballistic missile and drone capabilities, support for proxy groups, and threats to maritime security, alongside efforts to achieve lasting regional peace.
He also commended the professionalism of Bahrain’s defence and security institutions, including the Bahrain Defence Force, National Guard, and Ministry of Interior, for safeguarding the Kingdom’s sovereignty and national interests.
The Crown Prince stressed the importance of Iran’s compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which calls for an immediate cessation of attacks and condemns actions targeting civilian infrastructure.
For his part, Prime Minister Starmer strongly condemned the attacks on Bahrain and other countries in the region. He praised the leadership of King Hamad and reaffirmed the UK’s support for Bahrain’s security and stability, also commending the unity and resilience demonstrated by the Bahraini people.
