MPs said on Thursday that Bahrain’s national unity must remain the first shield against regional threats, as they welcomed remarks by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at a joint sitting of Parliament and the Shura Council.
They said the minister’s speech showed that the kingdom’s security and stability remain the chief concern at a tense time for the region, and that facing such pressure calls for awareness, discipline and a shared stand around the leadership.
Hassan Ebrahim said the speech gave a clear reading of the current moment and the fast changes unfolding around Bahrain. He said it showed an approach based on holding the home front together, bringing people into one rank and strengthening unity to preserve order and calm.
He said the minister’s remarks carried a plain message to citizens that Bahrain’s safety and stability come first, and that preserving both calls for shared awareness and sincere support for the leadership as events move quickly across the region.
Ebrahim said the speech also showed a firm state approach to threats, alongside care in handling security matters. That, he said, should reassure the public that the state and its security bodies are able to protect the country, preserve what has been achieved and keep matters stable.
He added that defending sovereignty is not the task of state bodies alone, but a shared duty that calls on all parts of society to pull together in one spirit. He said national cohesion remains the first line of defence when the country is put under strain.
Dr Maryam Al Dhaen also welcomed the minister’s remarks, saying they carried a clear national message and showed the state was ready to deal with challenges while keeping Bahrain’s security and stability as the top concern in the current climate.
She said the speech pointed to an approach based on early action and a stronger response, helping deepen trust in the power of state bodies to protect the country and preserve what it has gained.
Dr Al Dhaen said the current spell calls for greater public awareness and a deeper sense of belonging and duty. She said the bond between the leadership and the people remains key to getting through hard times and keeping the kingdom safe and stable.
She added that loyalty is passed from one generation to the next, and instilled in children so the country stays strong and closely knit when tested.
Dr Hassan Eid Bukhammas, chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, said the minister’s speech before members of Parliament and the Shura Council was a clear address on duty and loyalty to the country and its leader.
Bukhammas said the speech stressed that Bahrain stands firm in defence of its sovereignty and of those living in Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and through the follow-up and carrying out of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He said the minister was plain in describing the Iranian attack as a threat unlike any Bahrain had faced before, with missiles and drones used in large numbers in what he described as a direct assault on the kingdom’s sovereignty. He said this showed the worth of the high level of readiness shown by the security and military services.
Bukhammas said the minister’s words describing the moment as a day of unity, solidarity and national cohesion, and a day to repay the homeland and its leader, matched the feelings of Bahrainis standing by their country with clear awareness and a strong sense of duty.
He said the legislative branch stands as one behind the leadership and supports all steps taken by the Interior Ministry and the security services to protect national security and defend sovereignty. He also praised the work of police, civil defence, the National Ambulance and traffic personnel, along with other ministry staff, for their efforts to protect lives and property.
