A man who mistakenly entered a private house believing it was a nearby mosque suffered permanent hearing loss after being slapped by the homeowner, according to proceedings before Bahrain’s First High Criminal Court.
The incident occurred after the victim left Salmaniya Medical Complex and began searching for a mosque to perform his prayers, court records show.
While walking through the area, he approached a house displaying flags on its façade, which he believed marked the entrance to a mosque.
Acting on that assumption, he opened the door and entered the property. The homeowner immediately confronted him. Realising his mistake, the visitor apologised and attempted to leave, explaining that he had entered unintentionally after confusing the house for a mosque.
Prosecutors say the homeowner, angered by the intrusion, slapped the man on the left side of his face.
Victim
Shocked by the incident, the victim left the scene without escalating the situation.
Later that evening, however, he began experiencing severe pain in his left ear and sought medical attention.
Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a perforated eardrum, resulting in permanent hearing loss estimated at 7 per cent, according to medical reports submitted to the court.
