Bahrain Chairs 17th GCC Meeting of Assistant Attorneys General and Prosecutors

Meeting explores artificial intelligence rules, joint investigation teams and enhanced prosecutorial cooperation

Manama, September 7 (BNA): Counsellor Wael Rashid Buallay, Senior Advocate General and Assistant Attorney General, chaired the 17th meeting of the Assistant Attorneys General and Prosecutors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held via videoconference.

Counsellor Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi, First Advocate General and Head of Judicial Inspection, represented the Public Prosecution of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the meeting.

Counsellor Buallay stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation and coordination among the public prosecution and prosecutorial authorities of the GCC countries. He highlighted the need to integrate efforts, exchange expertise and share best practices to develop prosecutorial work systems, enhance efficiency in addressing challenges and serve the common interests of the GCC countries.

The meeting reviewed several items on its agenda, including a proposal submitted by the Public Prosecution of Bahrain to establish rules governing the use of artificial intelligence in the work of public prosecution and prosecutorial authorities, along with draft rules submitted in this regard.

The participants also discussed developing rules for joint cooperation among GCC public prosecution and prosecutorial authorities, establishing a Gulf mechanism for forming joint investigation teams, and updating unified templates for international cooperation.

The meeting further reviewed distinguished prosecutorial experiences to be presented at the upcoming meeting of Attorneys General and Public Prosecutors. Among them was Bahrain's experience in combating human trafficking, particularly in the areas of administering justice and protecting victims.

The Assistant Attorneys General and Public Prosecutors submitted their recommendations and proposals on the agenda items for consideration by the Attorneys General and Public Prosecutors at their 18th meeting, scheduled to be held next October.
