Sewerage projects worth more than BD4.3 million are currently under way across the Northern Governorate. These projects are part of broader infrastructure works aimed at expanding sanitation services and improving living conditions in several residential areas.
The Ministry of Works detailed the projects in a written reply to a parliamentary question regarding infrastructure development in the Twelfth District of the Northern Governorate.
According to the ministry, sewer network coverage across the governorate has reached approximately 69 per cent, while coverage within the Twelfth District stands at around 53 per cent. Authorities said further expansion is planned to connect additional properties to the public sewer system in the coming years.
Four sewer projects have already been completed in the area at a combined cost of about BD1.85 million. These works included network expansions in the villages of Malkiya and Sadad, as well as infrastructure connecting the Karzakan Health Centre to the main sewer system.
The largest completed project was the third phase of the Malkiya Block 1034 sewer network, which serves hundreds of properties and cost more than BD1.3 million.
Meanwhile, three major sewer projects are currently under construction with a combined value of around BD4.37 million. These include sewer and stormwater drainage networks in Malkiya Block 1033, Shahrakan Block 1044 and Sadad Block 1038.
Construction on these projects began between late 2024 and early 2025, with completion expected during 2026.
Beyond sewer networks, the ministry confirmed that additional road infrastructure projects are also planned in the district, with future works estimated at approximately BD8.1 million.
These projects include road paving, construction of service roads, stormwater drainage networks and pedestrian infrastructure designed to support expanding residential communities in the Northern Governorate.
