Bahrain–Japan Ties Highlighted at Emperor’s Birthday Reception
The Japanese Embassy in Manama hosted a reception to celebrate the 66th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan, highlighting the strong and growing relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Asako Okai, Ambassador of Japan to Bahrain, said the two countries have enjoyed a close partnership since diplomatic relations were established in 1972, with cooperation expanding from energy into areas such as technology, space, innovation, education, culture, and digital transformation.
She described Bahrain as a key partner and a gateway to the GCC, noting increasing Japanese interest in investment, creative industries, and people-to-people exchanges. The ambassador also reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to regional stability and dialogue, and expressed hope for stronger connectivity, including future direct flights between the two countries.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani congratulated Japan on the occasion and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties. He highlighted 2025 as a milestone year, marked by the visit of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to Japan, the signing of several agreements, and Bahrain’s successful participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. Both sides stressed the importance of diplomacy, cooperation, and shared values in advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development.
