CSIS Hosts Bahrain-U.S. Dialogue on Peace, Security, and Regional Cooperation

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, took part in a high-level roundtable organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. The session brought together diplomats, international affairs experts, and policymakers, including Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United States, alongside the minister’s official delegation.

During the dialogue, Minister Al Zayani emphasized the decades-long friendship and strategic partnership between Bahrain and the United States. He highlighted the Comprehensive Security and Prosperity Integration Agreement (C-SIPA) as a key framework for advancing cooperation in defense, trade, technology, and economic integration.

The minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to promoting sustainable peace and regional stability. He stressed that conflicts should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, ensuring a secure and prosperous environment for all.

Minister Al Zayani also spoke about Bahrain’s role as a founding member of the “Peace Council,” an initiative launched by former U.S. President Donald Trump to support reconstruction and recovery in conflict-affected areas, including Gaza. He described Bahrain’s 2020 peace agreement as a milestone in regional diplomacy, opening the door for a Middle East built on coexistence and collaboration.

The minister praised international efforts to end the conflict in Sudan and resolve the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, which have been welcomed by regional leaders. He said such initiatives offer hope for peace, stability, and growth across the region.

Highlighting Bahrain’s non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council, Minister Al Zayani underscored the kingdom’s dedication to constructive engagement on global peace, maritime security, youth education, AI governance, and collective security.

The roundtable also addressed ongoing regional and international developments, assessing their impact on Middle East security, peace, and stability. Discussions focused on conflict prevention, crisis management, and the threat posed by extremist groups exploiting regional instability.
