Bahrain Strengthens Global Sporting Presence as Golf Championship Opens

Manama: The Bapco Energies Bahrain Golf Championship officially opened with its inaugural ceremony held on January 27, 2026, marking the start of one of the Kingdom’s flagship international sporting events. Positioned as a prominent fixture on the global golf calendar, the championship continues to earn recognition for its professional organisation and high competitive standards, reinforcing Bahrain’s reputation as a leading host of major sporting tournaments.

The opening ceremony took place at the Royal Golf Club and was attended by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, who was delegated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to attend the event. The ceremony was also attended by Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, along with a number of senior officials and dignitaries.

During the ceremony, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad highlighted the championship’s role in showcasing Bahrain as a destination that combines sporting excellence with cultural and tourism appeal. He noted that the event reflects the Kingdom’s readiness to host elite international competitions while supporting local participation and the continued development of national sporting talent.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa announced the renewal of Bahrain’s hosting agreement for the championship for the next ten years, underscoring international confidence in the Kingdom’s organisational capabilities and long-term commitment to global sports partnerships. He also noted that the 2026 edition features a strong lineup of world-class golfers, alongside the participation of three Bahraini players, supported by an integrated programme of entertainment and cultural activities.

The Bapco Energies Bahrain Golf Championship officially runs from January 29 to February 1, 2026, bringing together leading international and local players in a tournament that continues to strengthen Bahrain’s standing on the world sports stage.
