Bahrain Launches New Newborn Hearing Screening Clinic at Salmaniya Medical Complex

His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, inaugurated a new Newborn Hearing Screening Clinic at Salmaniya Medical Complex today. The opening was attended by Dr. Mariam Athbi Al Jalahma, CEO of Government Hospitals, along with a number of officials and medical specialists.

The initiative reflects Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing comprehensive healthcare programs for newborns and implementing global best practices in early disease detection, ensuring healthy and holistic development from the earliest stages of life.

Dr. Mariam Suhwan, Head of the ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Government Hospitals, highlighted that the clinic will enable early detection of hearing impairments in newborns using the latest advanced medical technologies. She emphasized that early screening allows timely therapeutic interventions, minimizing potential impacts on children’s speech, language, and auditory development.

Dr. Suhwan added that the clinic represents a significant advancement in pediatric healthcare in Bahrain, enhancing service quality and ensuring timely access to necessary treatments, in line with the Kingdom’s efforts to achieve sustainable health development goals.

The new clinic is part of the Government Hospitals’ ongoing strategy to expand pediatric services and preventive screenings in accordance with international standards, supporting the Kingdom’s mission to improve healthcare quality and overall quality of life for its citizens.
