Shura Council Launches Legislative Awareness Week

The General Secretariat of the Shura Council will launch Legislative Culture Week for university students tomorrow (Sunday), bringing together around 250 male and female students from 12 universities and higher education institutions.

The five-day programme aims to raise awareness of legislative work and its contribution to Bahrain’s development, while introducing students to the powers and role of the Shura Council, as well as the responsibilities and functions of its General Secretariat.

The initiative also seeks to create opportunities for young people to engage, participate and exchange ideas on legislative affairs and national development.

The programme is being organised as part of the General Secretariat’s “From Voice to Impact” initiative, implemented under the direction of Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh and followed up by Secretary-General Karima Mohammed Al Abbasi.

It also forms part of the Council’s efforts to strengthen community partnerships with universities and higher education institutions.

The programme focuses on turning youth ideas into practical impact by giving students opportunities to express their views and develop initiatives that could be supported by the Council. The initiative aims to help transform ideas and proposals into contributions that can support the development of legislative work and strengthen the role of young people as partners in developing solutions and anticipating future needs.

The week will feature interactive activities exploring smart solutions in legislative work, programmes designed to strengthen parliamentary awareness, and a field visit offering students practical exposure to the legislative working environment.

It will also include dedicated opportunities for youth participation, allowing students to develop ideas and initiatives related to legislative work.

The Legislative Culture Week reflects the General Secretariat’s efforts to develop its communication tools with young people and move legislative awareness beyond knowledge towards practical experience, participation and engagement.

The programme also seeks to strengthen cooperation with higher education institutions and provide students with a comprehensive introduction to parliamentary work and opportunities to contribute to its impact.
