Bahrain Reaffirms Commitment to Regional and Global Peace on International Day of Peace
National figures have highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to promoting regional and international peace, reflecting the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The King’s approach emphasizes wise diplomacy, tolerance, respect for sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence among nations.
The remarks came in exclusive statements to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) ahead of the United Nations’ celebration of the International Day of Peace on September 21, observed this year under the theme “Work for a World of Peace.” Participants noted that Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty, represents a pioneering example in fostering dialogue, openness, and international partnerships to enhance security and stability.
Professor Nancy Dina Ely Khodouri, member of the Shura Council’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, National Security, and Human Rights, stated that Bahrain’s participation in the International Day of Peace reflects its unwavering commitment to tolerance and coexistence. She added that the Kingdom continues to strengthen its international position as a haven of peace by supporting interfaith dialogue and adopting policies rooted in respect, rejecting hatred and extremism. Initiatives such as the “Bahrain Declaration” and the “King Hamad Chair for Interfaith Dialogue, Coexistence, and Tolerance” are cited as landmark efforts in promoting a culture of peace both locally and globally.
Similarly, Abdullah Al-Rumaihi, member of the Council of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and National Security, emphasized that Bahrain has become a global model in advancing coexistence and tolerance through practical policies and targeted initiatives. These efforts have enhanced the Kingdom’s international reputation and solidified its role as a supporter of regional and global peace.
Professor Abdullah Al-Huwaj, founding president of the University of Bahrain, highlighted that Bahrain’s initiatives, including the King Hamad Global Centre for Tolerance and Coexistence, exemplify the King’s vision of a world transcending differences, founded on justice and mutual respect. He noted that Bahrain is a unique example of religious and cultural coexistence, where values of peace and tolerance are deeply embedded in daily life.
Pastor Hani Aziz, of the National Evangelical Church, affirmed that Bahrain’s approach to peace is comprehensive and grounded in justice and equal opportunities, reflecting the Kingdom’s vision of promoting harmony among all communities. He praised the leadership of His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for providing a clear roadmap for coexistence and tolerance.
Dr. Shamsan Al-Munai, a humanities and social sciences academic, added that Bahrain’s geographic location and history have made it a hub for cultural and intellectual diversity. He noted that the Kingdom has reinforced this heritage through legal initiatives, institutional frameworks, and international awards aimed at serving humanity, empowering women and youth, and promoting sustainable development.
Betsy B. Matheson, president of “This is Bahrain” association, emphasized that the Kingdom has historically welcomed all religions, cultures, and nationalities to live in harmony, describing Bahrain as a vibrant, multicultural mosaic characterized by mutual respect and goodwill.
Suleiman Nasser, head of the Independent Lawyers Group, praised Bahrain’s civilizational model based on respect for others, highlighting the Kingdom’s advanced humanitarian diplomacy that positions peace as a sustainable domestic and foreign project. He noted that initiatives such as the Bahrain Declaration, the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, and interfaith dialogue programs make Bahrain a model for promoting regional and international security.
Dr. Hiyam Al-Sabah, a writer and human development expert, concluded that Bahrain has institutionalized a culture of peace, coexistence, and tolerance through targeted initiatives promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue. She emphasized that the Kingdom offers a tangible example of a peaceful society, reinforcing its regional and international standing in security, stability, and fostering bonds of goodwill among nations.
