Bahrain Delivers Joint GCC Statement in Geneva
Ambassador Abdullah Abdul Latif Abdullah, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organizations, delivered a joint statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Jordan.
The statement was presented during an interactive dialogue at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, addressing the situation of human rights in Iran.
The joint statement strongly condemned what it described as blatant attacks carried out by Iran against the territories of several Arab countries. It highlighted that the strikes targeted civilian areas and critical infrastructure, posing serious risks to civilian safety and regional stability.
It further stressed that targeting third-party countries not involved in any conflict constitutes a clear violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The statement also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which strongly condemns attacks targeting Bahrain and other countries in the region and calls for their immediate cessation.
Additionally, GCC states and Jordan rejected descriptions in reports by the UN Special Rapporteur and Fact-Finding Mission that labeled the attacks as “retaliatory strikes,” arguing that such terminology lacks legal and factual basis and could inadvertently legitimize unlawful acts of aggression.
The countries urged relevant UN mechanisms to accurately reflect the true nature of these attacks and explicitly condemn what they described as unjustified aggression, while calling on Iran to comply fully with Resolution 2817.
