Bahrain expresses strong concern over Iran’s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed deep concern over Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz to international navigation.
In an official statement, the ministry said such actions would violate international law and the law of the sea, posing a serious threat to maritime security in the Gulf region. It described the move as a dangerous escalation that could undermine regional stability and international peace.
The ministry stressed that safeguarding freedom of navigation in this strategically vital waterway is essential for global interests, calling for a firm international response to ensure the continued flow of maritime traffic.
It also underscored the importance of securing global oil supplies and trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Bahrain urged affected countries to act swiftly to strengthen maritime security initiatives and reaffirm their commitment to international laws governing freedom of navigation. The ministry further called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its legal responsibilities in addressing Iranian threats, warning that any disruption to navigation could result in significant losses to the global economy.
