Malaysian Ambassador Outlines New Avenues of Cooperation
The Embassy of Malaysia in the Kingdom of Bahrain hosted a National Day Reception today, commemorating two significant milestones in the nation’s history — the Declaration of Independence on August 31, 1957, and the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963.
The evening commenced with a minute of silence to honour the lives lost in Gaza and other conflict zones around the world, reflecting Malaysia’s solidarity with global humanitarian causes.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, attended the reception as a guest of honour alongside Shazryll Zahiran, Ambassador of Malaysia to Bahrain. The event was also attended by senior officials, diplomats, members of the business community and distinguished guests.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Shazryll Zahiran highlighted the breadth and ambition of Malaysia–Bahrain ties, stressing that both countries are strengthening trade and investment partnerships in areas of mutual expertise and competitive advantage — notably halal products, Islamic finance and digital technology. He identified tourism cooperation, particularly cultural and eco-tourism, as an “exciting frontier” and urged joint promotional efforts to attract more visitors to experience the unique heritage and natural beauty of both nations.
The ambassador further underscored cooperation in education and knowledge exchange — including student exchanges, scholarship programmes, joint research and capacity-building — as vital channels for deepening people-to-people ties. He pointed to emerging opportunities for collaboration in healthcare, renewable energy and other innovation-led sectors as new avenues to support sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
Reflecting on the long-standing relationship between the two countries, the ambassador thanked Bahrain’s leadership for their support and cooperation, paid tribute to the Embassy’s Bahraini partners and public officials, and expressed appreciation to the Royal Guard for their ceremonial performance.
