Minister Inspects Progress on Riffa Walkway Development

Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, paid a field visit to the Riffa Walkway development project in the Southern Governorate. He reviewed the progress of the work and the overall development plan, accompanied by Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Southern Municipal Council Abdullah Ibrahim Abdul Latif, Director-General of the Southern Municipality Eng. Isa Abdulrahman Al Buainain, and Council member Ali Abdulhamid Al Shaikh.

During the visit, the Minister said that about 60% of the project has been completed and is expected to be finished by the end of this year. He stressed the ministry’s commitment to implementing vital service projects that support Bahrain’s ongoing development and provide new recreational and service facilities for residents.

The Riffa Walkway project covers an area of 36,018 square meters. It includes upgrades to shades, playgrounds, lighting, and public facilities, the installation of modern fitness equipment, resurfacing and repainting of asphalt, and the planting of 400 new trees to expand green spaces.

Al Mubarak highlighted that the ministry gives special attention to the development and maintenance of public walkways, ensuring they are equipped with services that meet visitors’ needs. He also noted that the Riffa Walkway has been a focus of the ministry’s afforestation plan, part of wider efforts to improve beaches, parks, walkways, playgrounds, and recreational spaces in line with international standards.

For his part, Abdullah Ibrahim Abdul Latif, Chairman of the Southern Municipal Council, said the walkway is one of the most important community facilities in the area and a popular destination for residents and visitors. He explained that the development project came in response to the community’s demand for an integrated environment to enjoy sports and recreational activities.

He praised the ministry’s efforts to enhance public facilities and strengthen services across Bahrain, noting that such projects contribute to national development and serve both citizens and residents.
