Quran Care Society collects waste paper for a holy cause
Quran Care Society has appealed to the people to deposit all the unwanted papers, instead of dumping them in the garbage, to be recycled for printing Qurans.
The society has set up about 150 collection boxes near mosques, schools and other public places where all the unwanted books, newspapers, old note books and other rough papers can be deposited.
The society members collect these deposits every week and take them to the recycling units. The money earned from the recycling of papers will be used in printing Qurans and distributing them throughout the world.
Speaking to the DT News yesterday, Project Manager, Recycling Paper to Print Quran at Quran Care Society, Amjad Ali Safdar, said he wishes to clarify the misconception that Quran was being printed on the recycled low quality paper.
President of the society Dr. Adel Hasan Al Hamad, said the society has distributed around 3.5 million copies of Quran to many countries including Kenya, Somalia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, USA, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
Quran Care Society also requested people to separately cover and tag the deposit, if it contains any sacred papers. Alternatively, people can contact the society members on 17764500 and 34567070, and request for a home collection.
Such sacred papers are later disposed off in the sea with the help of the coastguards.
Safdar said people generally stuff the papers in the garbage, which is also not good for the environment. He said they were trying their best to make people aware about this campaign and the purpose of the collection boxes.
