Seven in ten Bahraini workers are under 40

A youthful workforce continues to shape Bahrain’s labour market, with seven in ten Bahraini employees under 40 in the first quarter of 2025, new government data reveal.

Across the public and private sectors, 155,596 Bahrainis were in employment, of whom 107,963 were under 40. The public sector employed 51,138 Bahrainis, with 30,470 under 40, accounting for 60%. The private sector, by contrast, counted 104,458 workers, including 77,493 under 40, or 74.1% of its workforce.

The largest age group among employees was 30 to 39, representi n g 41%, fol - lowed by those aged 20 to 29 at 28%. Only 1,140 insured Bahrainis were under 20, or 0.7% of the total.

In terms of gender, men made up 58% of the workforce (89,886), while women accounted for 42% (65,710). Among older age groups, 34,055 Bahrainis were aged 40 to 49 (22%), and 11,583 were 50 to 59 (7%).

The data highlight the strong presence of younger Bahrainis, particularly in the private sector, reflecting a workforce increasingly dominated by early and mid-career professionals.
