Lieutenant General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor and Royal Guard Commander of the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressed his country’s gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

President Putin warmly welcomed Prince Nasser and the accompanying Bahraini delegation, praising the enduring ties between Russia and Bahrain. He acknowledged that the visit came during a sensitive period in the region, saying, “Unfortunately, our meeting takes place against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East. We are all watching the developments there with concern.”

Putin highlighted that the presence of HH Shaikh Nasser — despite his extensive responsibilities in national security — demonstrated Bahrain's strong commitment to enhancing its partnership with Russia.
“This is the best confirmation of Bahrain’s sincere dedication to strengthening bilateral relations,” President Putin noted. “We value the firm and friendly nature of our ties, which this year mark their 32nd anniversary.”

The Russian President also pointed to a positive trajectory in trade and investment cooperation, revealing that joint ventures now span over 30 projects across different sectors. “In the first quarter of this year, we saw a 15% growth in mutual trade compared to last year,” he said, adding that both countries are working closely across economic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors.

HH Shaikh Nasser conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and handed over a message from the King to President Putin. He thanked the Russian leader for his ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.

“We highly appreciate your role and your leadership’s efforts to de-escalate tensions,” Prince Nasser said. “Bahrain is fully committed to building stronger cooperation with Russia across political, economic, cultural, and tourism sectors.”

He also expressed appreciation for Bahrain being named a Guest of Honor at this year’s SPIEF, calling the forum a vital platform to deepen international partnerships.

“Our delegation is keen to build on our historical relationship and explore new areas of collaboration under your wise leadership,” Prince Nasser said. “St. Petersburg is a beautiful city, and we are honored to participate in this globally significant forum.”

The meeting reinforced the strategic nature of Bahrain-Russia relations, with both sides pledging to continue their efforts to ensure peace, economic growth, and stability in the region and beyond.
