MPs call for restoration of Dumistan’s original coastline and village identity

MPs Dr Muneer Seroor and Hanan Fardan have renewed their call to restore Dumistan’s original coastline, insisting it must express the village’s character and reconnect residents with their historical ties to the sea.

They rejected isolated commercial developments that overlook the area’s cultural setting.

In a joint statement, the two MPs said any alternative project should grow out of the spirit of the place rather than impose a generic leisure or retail frontage that ignores the village’s identity.

spaces, and stressed that ministry plans must go along with this national approach.

Coastlines, they said, must be treated as shared heritage, not eroded or transformed into schemes that clash with the local setting.

Speaking after a visit to the beach site alongside municipal councillor Zainab Al Durazi and representatives from the Dumistan Seafront Committee, both MPs said the issue went beyond planning.

It was, they said, a matter of environmental and social fairness.

“Dumistan deserves a coastal project that restores what was forcibly lost,” they said, “one that honours the village’s social and cultural fabric and brings the community back to the sea.”
