IronMan: Immaculate traffic plan in place

General Director of Traffic Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa recently announced that the department designed a traffic plan for the Middle East IronMan Championship set to be held today.

He said that the event will commence from Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd and will move to Shaikh Khalifa Bridge as the middle and left lanes will be opened towards Mina Salman tunnel and the right lane will be allocated for the contestants until Al Fateh highway junction.

He said that those who are coming from Shaikh Khalifa Bridge or Shaikh Isa bin Salman highway will not be able to go to Al Fateh highway and could drive through Kuwait road in Um Al Hassam. He said that the expected period of this phase would be from 6.30 am to 9 am.

About traffic flow on Al Fateh highway, he said that the left lane would be allocated for the race, while drivers wouldn’t be able to turn through the three signal junctions (the entrance of Juffair junction, Al Fateh mosque junction and Najma club junction).

Contestants will continue to the Bahrain Bay flyover until the Bahrain Financial Harbour traffic signal.

He said that the left lane on King Faisal highway and Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman highway until Zallaq flyover near University of Bahrain would be allocated for the event. The right and middle lanes will remain open. This phase is expected to take place from 07:00 am to 10:00 am.

He highlighted that contestants will use Zallaq road from Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman highway towards Equestrian Club junction, then they will make a U-turn and go back towards the University of Bahrain, in which the middle lane will be allocated for them until the Bahrain Bay junction. This phase will take place from 8 am to 1.30 pm.

Drivers on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman highway driving to Sakhir could go to Wali Al Ahad road, drive to the clock roundabout and then turn right to go to the camping area.

He said that the allocation of lanes wouldn’t be on both sides of roads and drivers would be directed to sub-roads and diversions, while high traffic deployment will take place to regulate traffic.

He called upon road users to follow traffic rules and cooperate with traffic men for the safety of road users and the success of this international event.
