MPs plan to discuss rainwater flooding
MPs decided to discuss the recent rainwater flooding issue in their upcoming weekly meeting on Tuesday.
During the previous weekly session, majority of MPs voted demanding an explanation from the government on its strategies in regards to recurring flooding problem in different areas in Bahrain and the poor infrastructure in the country.
The lawmakers said they would inquire about the procedures followed by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning during rain seasons. They also demanded information about the availability of water-suction tankers and the ministry’s plans for draining rainwaters.
The request was submitted by MPs Isa Turki, Anas Buhindi, Abdulhaleem Murad, Jamal Dawood, Mohsen Al Bakry, Mohammed Al Maarifi, Thiyab Al Nuaimi, Osama Al Khaja and Hamad Al Dossary.
They mentioned in their request that they demand an answer for the annual reappearing of the rainwater flooding issue in Bahrain.
As reported earlier, rainwater flooded many areas in the Kingdom lately, especially housing projects. The issue raised questions about the capability of the existing infrastructure in draining excessive floods and in cases of emergency.
Undersecretary and Assistant Undersecretary of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry and Housing Ministry explained last Monday that the ministries are working in full swing to prevent such occurrences from repeating. They also explained that the flooding happened due to technical issues and the heavy rainfall witnessed by the country recently.
Representatives of the government are expected to attend the meeting on Tuesday and give reply to the MPs queries.
