Washington: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday that 62 commercial vessels have been redirected as part of a fresh naval blockade on Iran.
CENTCOM stated that as of August 14, its soldiers destroyed three vessels and boarded two more to ensure conformity with the embargo. The latest numbers show an increase in US maritime enforcement as relations with Iran remain high.
The embargo coincides with a substantial reduction in shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, a critical conduit for global oil and gas supply. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has stated that American forces can maintain the naval blockade forever by rotating vessels in the region.
