Three US Inmates Executed in One Day, First Time Since 2010

Washington: On Thursday, three convicted murderers were killed by lethal injection in Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alabama, marking the first time three executions in the United States occurred on the same day since 2010.

The inmates were Anthony Hines, 66, executed in Tennessee for the 1985 murder of motel maid Catherine Jenkins; Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, 70, executed in Oklahoma for the 2003 murder of his girlfriend Olimpia Fisher; and Jeremy Williams, 42, executed in Alabama for the rape and murder of 5 year old Kamarie Holland in 2021.

The last time three executions took place on the same day was January 7, 2010, when Louisiana, Ohio and Texas carried out executions. In the midst of a wider increase in the use of the death penalty, the most recent deaths brought the total number of executions in the US this year to 22. In 2025, there were 47 executions nationwide, the most since 2009.

The executions drew criticism from death-penalty opponents and human rights groups, who argue that capital punishment is irreversible and raises concerns over wrongful convictions and racial inequality. On the other hand, proponents claim that it provides victims and their families with justice.
