At least 33 killed in airstrike on Myanmar's Rakhine state

Kyauktaw, Myanmar: At least 33 people were killed and 36 injured in an airstrike on the town of Kyauktaw in Myanmar's Rakhine state, according to the Arakan Army and an aid worker operating in the area.
The Arakan Army, which is fighting Myanmar's military, said the strike hit the riverside town in northern Rakhine. Aid worker Wai Hun Aung also confirmed the reported casualties.
Wai Hun Aung said Kyauktaw was far from active fighting and had no direct connection to the conflict. Reuters could not independently verify the reports.
Myanmar's military has been fighting armed groups across the country since the 2021 coup. The government did not immediately respond to a request for comment and has previously said its forces exercise maximum restraint to avoid civilian casualties.
The Arakan Army and Wai Hun Aung said the strike was among the deadliest air attacks in Rakhine since an attack on a hospital in December 2025 killed at least 30 people.
