Trump Denies Offering Iran Sanctions Relief, Release Of Frozen Funds

Washington: US President Donald Trump has denied claims that he offered Iran sanctions relief and access to blocked Iranian funds in exchange for significant actions toward its nuclear program.

Trump criticized an Axios report citing an anonymous US official as stating Washington was willing to lift sanctions and release frozen funds if Tehran made progress on nuclear concerns. Trump denied the allegation and claimed he had promised Iran ‘nothing.’

The denial comes as Washington and Tehran continue indirect diplomatic engagement via regional mediators. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with Qatari mediators, seeking a response from Washington to requests to reopen negotiations.

The two sides remain opposed over Iran's nuclear program and other topics related to the ongoing conflict. Trump also rejected an Iranian request to reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, but said further talks may resume.

The conflicting claims make the nature of any potential US economic concessions unclear, as diplomatic efforts to resolve the nuclear standoff and broader regional problems continue.
