Saudi, Egypt Step Up Regional Security Coordination Amid Iranian Attacks

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional security and efforts to restore stability during a phone call on Tuesday, as Cairo reaffirmed its support for Gulf states amid continued Iranian attacks.

The two ministers reviewed the latest regional developments and efforts to strengthen security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The call came as Abdelatty separately met Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi in El-Alamein. The two officials stressed the need to address regional disputes through diplomacy and constructive dialogue.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with GCC member states and condemned Iranian attacks targeting their territories. He stressed that the security of the Gulf states is an integral part of Egypt's national security, according to a GCC statement.

Al-Budaiwi welcomed Egypt's support for the Gulf states and thanked Cairo for its position amid the ongoing attacks. Both officials stressed the importance of supporting regional and international efforts to contain tensions and restore stability.

Egypt has repeatedly condemned attacks against Gulf countries while calling for diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading further.

Saudi Arabia has also intensified consultations with regional partners. On Monday, Prince Faisal discussed de-escalation efforts with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, with both sides stressing the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and the security of waterways in the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea.

Riyadh is also leading a new multinational maritime coalition focused on protecting commercial shipping, supply chains and energy flows across the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandab Strait and Gulf of Aden.

Saudi Arabia has maintained that diplomacy must remain central to resolving the wider regional crisis while emphasizing its right to defend its territory, citizens and critical infrastructure.

During Tuesday's meeting, Abdelatty and Al-Budaiwi also reviewed Egypt-GCC relations, including the joint cooperation plan for 2024–2028 and initiatives to strengthen economic and investment ties.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation between Egypt and the six GCC states and supporting efforts to restore security and stability across the region.
