Berlin: Berlin Pride attacker pledged allegiance to Islamic State, prosecutors say after investigators recovered a video from the suspect's mobile phone in which he allegedly declared loyalty to the extremist group on the day of the deadly attack.
Authorities believe the footage strengthens evidence of an Islamist motive behind the assault that killed a 65-year-old Polish woman and injured 31 others.
Prosecutors said the video was recorded hours before the attacker drove a rented van into crowds near Berlin's Pride parade. Investigators also found suspected Islamic State-related material on devices seized from his home.
The 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese origin was later shot dead by police after allegedly charging at officers with a bladed weapon.
He had previously travelled to Lebanon in an unsuccessful attempt to join Islamic State and had recently received a suspended sentence in Germany for planning a serious act of violence.
