Accra, Ghana: Anglican Church leader visits slave trade project on Africa tour as Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally began her first visit to Africa since assuming leadership of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
During her trip to Ghana, Mullally met President John Mahama and joined the groundbreaking ceremony for an Anglican-led cultural heritage project that will preserve the history of the transatlantic slave trade and strengthen ties with the African diaspora.
The Heritage Anglican Culture Village and Resorts aims to become a pilgrimage and educational centre for descendants of enslaved people and members of the global Anglican community.
The visit also highlighted Ghana's continued efforts to reconnect with the African diaspora and advance international recognition of slavery's legacy. Mullally's tour follows years of reflection within the Church of England over its historical links to slavery and will continue with a visit to Cameroon.
