Abu Dhabi: A UAE court overturned a man's death sentence for killing a lady with scissors and attempting to murder another man. The accused was charged with repeatedly stabbing the victim with a sharp scissors, causing fatal injuries. Prosecutors also charged him with attempting to murder another guy by stabbing him repeatedly. The second victim recovered after getting medical care.

A third charge related to an illegal relationship with the deceased woman. However, during the proceedings, the trial court changed the legal description of the offence.

The Federal Supreme Court sent the case back to the Court of Appeal for a further hearing, noting concerns about the handling of crucial defence points. The defence reportedly argued that the accused acted in response to being provoked, and they also demanded a psychiatric evaluation.

The Supreme Court concluded that these points had not been fully addressed during the previous procedures. The death sentence was consequently overturned, and the lower court was directed to review the case in light of the defence allegations and other legal issues.

The ruling does not imply an acquittal. The case will now undergo a new judicial review, during which the court may re-examine the evidence, the accused's mental state, and the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
