Shanghai: Artificial intelligence has achieved a major milestone after AI models developed by China's Huawei and Xiaohongshu reportedly scored perfect marks at this year's International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), matching the competition's highest-performing human contestants.

The companies said their models completed the exam under the IMO's official judging process without human intervention during testing.

Only seven of the 666 students competing in Shanghai earned perfect scores, making the AI achievement particularly significant. Huawei credited its Celia model with broad mathematical reasoning, while Xiaohongshu said its dots-note-3.0 model achieved full marks in its first IMO attempt.

The breakthrough marks another rapid leap in AI capabilities. Last year, leading AI models reached silver-medal level, while in 2025 several achieved gold-level performances.

This year's results suggest frontier AI systems have now reached and in some cases matched the highest level of human mathematical competition.
