NEW DELHI: Indian billionaire Gautam Adani's Adani Group is considering launching a new airline, according to sources, as the conglomerate explores entering India's highly competitive aviation sector. However, no final decision has been made, with executives still evaluating whether the venture is commercially viable in a market dominated by IndiGo and Air India.
Sources said the group remains cautious because the airline industry is widely regarded as a difficult business with thin profit margins and intense competition. The proposal is still under internal review, and the company could decide against proceeding if the risks outweigh potential returns.
If approved, the move would mark Adani Group's biggest expansion in aviation since acquiring several Indian airports. It would also intensify competition in one of the world's fastest-growing air travel markets, challenging the long-standing dominance of the country's two largest carriers.
