Louvre Reopens Famous Gallery Months After Major Heist

Paris: The Louvre Museum’s famed Apollo Gallery will reopen to the public on Wednesday, nine months after a daring burglary stripped the hall of French crown jewels worth €88 million.
Museum officials confirmed that all display cases and precious objects have been entirely removed. The historic space will revert to its original 17th-century function as a ceremonial state gallery.
On October 19, 2025, thieves disguised as construction workers used a truck-mounted lift to break through a window in broad daylight. Eight stolen crown jewels remain missing.
The international shockwave exposed severe security vulnerabilities, prompting the replacement of former museum president Laurence des Cars with Christophe Leribault.
To protect the remaining royal collection, the Louvre plans to construct a high-security, windowless vault in another section of the building once funding and ideal locations are finalized.
