Men sue hospital after DNA reveals they were swapped at birth

Two men have filed a lawsuit against a North Dakota hospital after DNA tests revealed that they were unintentionally swapped at birth 38 years ago, disrupting their lives and their families'. The complaint alleges carelessness and demands compensation for the mental suffering caused by the decades-old mistake.

Kyle Bylin found out the truth after taking an at-home DNA test during a Christmas gift exchange, which lead him to his biological family. Further testing verified that he and Jeremy Morrison, the only newborns born at Unity Medical Centre on January 26, 1988, were sent home with their respective parents.

Although the hospital admits that the babies were transferred at some point, it says there is no proof that any of its employees were at fault. Additionally, it stated that personnel data and medical records from that era are no longer available, making it challenging to figure out how the confusion happened.

Both guys claim that although they are now forming bonds with their biological relatives, they still have strong ties to the families that raised them. The case demonstrates how rare birth-switch instances that were hidden for decades are being discovered through consumer DNA testing.
