Washington: Iraq and the United States have signed 48 agreements and partnership deals, many in the energy sector, during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to Washington, marking a major push to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The agreements involve Iraqi government bodies and US companies, including ExxonMobil, Shell, Halliburton, KBR, GE Vernova and Starlink. They cover oil, electricity, communications, infrastructure and technology projects, with investments worth around $60 billion.
Several of the deals focus on expanding Iraq's oil and gas sector and developing alternative export routes, including a proposed pipeline linking Iraq to Syria's Mediterranean coast to reduce reliance on the Strait of Hormuz.
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said the agreements reflect Iraq's efforts to attract foreign investment and revive its economy, while US President Donald Trump praised the growing partnership during their White House meeting.
