Khartoum: A fresh cholera outbreak in war-torn Sudan has killed 120 people and left over 1,100 suspected infections across isolated combat zones, the World Health Organization announced.
This surge marks Sudan's third wave of the disease in three years, surfacing merely two months after the prior epidemic was declared over. The crisis is heavily concentrated within the front lines of West Kordofan state before rapidly expanding into neighboring regions.
Persistent civil warfare has devastated local medical centers. Health experts warn that the impending rainy season will drastically worsen water contamination, accelerating transmissions, while ongoing fighting completely blocks emergency humanitarian aid.
