US Supreme Court Strikes Down Hawaii Gun Law

Washington: The US Supreme Court rejected a Hawaii rule that prohibited licensed gun owners from carrying weapons on private property exposed to the public, such as businesses, restaurants, and hotels, unless the owner specifically approved.
In a 6-3 ruling divided by opinion, the court concluded that the legislation violated the Second Amendment, with the conservative majority concluding that Hawaii's limits were incompatible with the nation's historical practice of weapon regulation.
The result overturns a lower court decision and is expected to have profound implications for similar gun regulations in California, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland. However, the Supreme Court affirmed Hawaii's ban on carrying weapons in sensitive areas such as government buildings and public places.
