US Strike in Syria Kills Senior ISIS Leader, CENTCOM Says
US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces carried out an airstrike in northwest Syria on June 19, killing a senior ISIS leader, according to a statement from the command.
The precision strike targeted and killed Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi, described by CENTCOM as a senior ISIS figure, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the activities of terrorist groups seeking to threaten the United States and its allies.
CENTCOM said its forces continue to work alongside regional partners to eliminate remaining ISIS networks and prevent future attacks.
“CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to rooting out remaining remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command.
“We will continue to defend the US homeland, our service members, and allies and partners across the region,” he added.
The operation comes as US forces continue counter-terrorism missions aimed at targeting ISIS leadership and reducing the group’s ability to operate in the region.
