French appeals court confirms rape trial for Achraf Hakimi

Paris: The French Versailles Court of Appeal has confirmed that Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi will face trial for an alleged rape from 2023, rejecting his request to have the case dismissed. The Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco captain has repeatedly denied the allegations.
The prosecution originates from an allegation filed by a 24 years old woman who claimed Hakimi raped her at his residence outside Paris in February 2023. The court concluded that there is sufficient evidence to continue to trial, however no trial date has yet been set.
Hakimi has maintained his innocence, saying he saw the trial as a chance to present his case. His lawyer stated that the verdict does not show he is guilty, but the complainant's lawyer regarded the decision as a relief to her client after more than three years of legal proceedings.
