Putin Replaces Governors in Border Regions Near Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has replaced the governors of two Russian regions bordering Ukraine, according to a statement issued by the Kremlin.
The leadership changes affect the Belgorod and Kursk regions, which have experienced repeated security incidents, including drone attacks and cross-border shelling since the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
The Kremlin said Putin accepted the resignations of the governors and appointed acting replacements until regional elections are held.
Russian authorities have increased focus on strengthening administration and security in border areas as fighting near the frontier continues.
The move comes as Moscow faces ongoing military and security challenges linked to the war in Ukraine and efforts to maintain stability in regions closest to the conflict.
