Slovakia Briefly Closes Ukraine Border Over Security Concerns
Slovakia temporarily closed its border crossings with Ukraine on Wednesday due to security concerns linked to intensified Russian attacks near the frontier, according to local and international reports.
Officials said the precautionary measure was taken amid warnings of possible large-scale strikes targeting the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod and the nearby Zakarpattia region, located close to the Slovak border.
The move came as Russia launched a new wave of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reporting that hundreds of drones had entered Ukrainian airspace during the day.
Slovak authorities said the border closure was temporary and aimed at ensuring public safety as regional tensions escalated.
The development highlights growing security concerns among countries neighbouring Ukraine as the conflict with Russia continues to intensify near border areas.
