U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American naval forces successfully protected U.S. warships while transiting the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman, after intercepting what it described as unprovoked Iranian attacks.
According to CENTCOM, Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and deployed small boats as three U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers—USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87)—passed through the international waterway. No U.S. vessels were struck.
The U.S. military said it responded in self-defense by intercepting incoming threats and conducting strikes against Iranian military assets, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control centers, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes.
CENTCOM stated it does not seek escalation but remains prepared to defend U.S. forces and ensure safe maritime passage in the region.
