EU agency opens door to using US jet fuel as shortages loom

Brussels: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has cleared the way for the potential use of US-produced Jet A fuel in Europe. Currently, the bloc relies on Jet A-1 fuel, but the Middle East war has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, causing fuel prices to soar and threatening severe shortages.
Several airlines have already been forced to cancel flights due to this energy shock.
While EASA states that Jet A poses no safety concerns if managed properly, it warns of "operational risks" when integrated into systems designed for Jet A-1. A key technical difference is that Jet A has a higher freezing point, making it less suitable for the extreme temperatures of long-haul flights.
