US President Donald J. Trump said several countries have asked the United States to help release their ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing regional tensions.
Trump said the ships belong to countries not involved in the Middle East conflict and described them as “neutral and innocent.” He added that the US will guide these vessels safely out of restricted waters under a plan called Project Freedom, set to begin Monday morning (Middle East time).
He noted that some ships are running low on essential supplies, calling the move a humanitarian effort to assist crews and ensure safe passage.
Trump also said discussions with Iran are ongoing and could lead to positive outcomes.
He warned that any interference with the operation would be dealt with firmly.
