US regulator orders review of ABC license after Trump criticizes Kimmel

Washington DC:  The FCC has ordered an early review of ABC’s broadcasting license after President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump demanded the network fire Jimmy Kimmel.

The controversy stems from a joke Kimmel made during a mock rehearsal for the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where he referred to Melania as an ‘expectant widow’. The Trumps characterized the remark as a call to violence, occurring shortly before an alleged assassination attempt on the president.

Kimmel defended the gag as a ‘light roast’ regarding the couple's age difference, noting that Trump later joked about his own mortality. This move follows previous instances of government pressure on media critics and comments from FCC Chair Brendan Carr suggesting the agency aligns with White House priorities.
